What is the purpose of the WordPress.com log in to my site and what can they do in this case?

Hi Jennie, there is really no critical purpose – wordpress.com is a very different platform than self-hosted WordPress.
I have a quick description of wp.com in this lesson.BUT – There are some reasons why that connection might want to be made. wordpress.com owns various plugins, and sometimes to make those plugins work, you’ll need a wordpress.com account to allow those specific functionalities.
